We have been living in Kuwait for the past three years and we thought that outside of city there was only Desert…
We were very wrong!
Thanks to a friend and Instagram we became aware of the fact that there are many farms one hour drive out of the city, so we decided to take a trip on a weekend to visit one of these.
Our choice when to the Sadeer Farms is a family owned organic farm located in Northern Kuwait, about 20 km before the Iraq boarder.
The History of Sadeer Farms began back in 1995 due to the fact that when purchasing meat and vegetables in Kuwait, most consumers had no idea as to what conditions the livestock and produce are kept in, how they are fed, and how humanely they are treated.
So originally, the commercial use of this farm began with goats and their feed; their focus was on running an ecological production management system which promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biodiversity, using biologically friendly techniques which work to maintain and enhance soil fertility.
Recentlyt hey decided to venture into vegetables and fruit production for the local community to enjoy. The Sadeer Farms goal is to promote organic agriculture, sustainability, openness, independence, health and safety.
Since they are open to the public only on the weekends (Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5 pm) we decided to go last Saturday and stay for the day with some friends , with 4 Town kids that where a bit skeptical of a day out at a Farm….. but as soon as they arrived they loved it.
To see our kids run in a wheat field and pick directly from the ground , Carrots , Onions, Tomatoes, Basil, Oregano, Chamomile, Lettuce, Kale , Artichokes and much more, was a real changing experience for them.
Then after visiting the Goats we had a fast lunch and then the kids rented some bikes and started riding around the Farm that was really some good open air exercise for them.
Esercizio all’aria aperta!!!
A few detailed info are : the entrance to the Sadeer Farms is free , if you want to harvest your own vegetables you pay 5 KD to receive a cardboard box which you can fill up with any vegetables you pick from the ground , naturally lunch is at your expense and even the bikes and a buggy ride across the hole estate.
Another interesting thing is that they Home Deliver a Vegetable Box weekly with a variable cost from 11 to 15 KD linked to the size .
To sum up the day, we all had a great time in an open air environment , very green, very tasteful and full of different beautiful smells , like the incredible perfume on fresh picked Basil !!
Even this is Kuwait.
Their phone number for info is 94444911.
